Miami's 2026-27 non-conference schedule just got a major boost.

Texas and Miami are finalizing an agreement to play next season at Toyota Center in Houston. The matchup would give Jai Lucas and the Hurricanes another high-end neutral-site opportunity during what is shaping up as an ambitious second season in Coral Gables.

Miami and Texas finalize agreement to play next season

Miami could have Florida, Texas, TCU and either Michigan or Creighton on the non-conference schedule before December.

Miami's schedule includes the Players Era 16 in Las Vegas, where the Hurricanes are set to open against TCU on Nov. 24 before facing either Michigan or Creighton two days later. Miami is guaranteed three games in the event, with its third opponent determined by bracket results. The Hurricanes would play a fourth game only if they win their side of the bracket and advance to the Players Era 16 championship game on Nov. 28.

Florida and Miami are set to open the 2026-27 season against each other Nov. 2 in Tampa.

Lucas has deep ties to both Texas and Houston

He played two seasons at Texas, graduated from the school in 2011 and began his coaching career with the Longhorns. He spent seven seasons on the Texas staff, starting as a special assistant before becoming director of basketball operations and then an assistant coach.

Lucas also grew up in the Houston area and starred at Bellaire High School, where he was a McDonald's All-American, a Jordan Brand Classic selection and a three-time district player of the year.

Miller's first Texas team averaged 82.8 points per game, the Longhorns' highest scoring average since the 1994-95 season. Texas also shot 48.4% from the field, its best mark since 1988-89.

In he last meeting between the two teams, the Hurricanes beat Texas 88-81 in the 2023 Elite Eight in Kansas City, rallying from a 13-point second-half deficit to reach the Final Four for the first time in program history.
