Miami may be the program to watch if South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers returns to college football next season, according to longtime NFL draft analyst Todd McShay. On Thursday's episode of "The McShay Show," McShay said multiple NFL scouts believe Sellers will not enter the 2026 draft and play another year — and he specifically flagged Miami as a potential landing spot if Sellers were to move on from the Gamecocks.

The situation is centered around the season Sellers and South Carolina is having this year. Going into the year, the Gamecocks were playoff hopefuls, now, not so much. McShay said a "strong opinion in NFL scouting circles" is that Sellers "will be back in school next year" because he "absolutely needs to."

McShay also outlined why Miami would surface in those conversations. He pointed to the Hurricanes' recent track record with transfer quarterbacks — citing Cam Ward’s jump to the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and current starter Carson Beck's performance in the early part is this year — as the type of landing spot evaluators believe could see accelerating Sellers' growth. McShay emphasized he was not alleging improper contact, framing the discussion as the kind of forward-looking chatter that circulates among scouts this time of year.

The intrigue around Sellers is not new for McShay. Before the season, he placed the 6-foot-3, 240-pound dual threat in his top quarterback tier for the 2026 class while repeatedly cautioning that another season could maximize his draft value.

For Miami, the mere mention is notable. Mario Cristobal's staff has aggressively worked the portal and has not hesitated to build quarterback rooms with experienced transfers. If Sellers were to pursue a change of scenery — and there has been no portal move from him — the Hurricanes’ combination of skill talent and recent quarterback development would make them a natural part of the conversation.
