Miami is out of the race for five-star point guard Taylen Kinney, who will announce his commitment on Sunday, Sept. 28, on CBS Sports HQ and YouTube. The Overtime Elite guard trimmed his list to six schools this week — Arkansas, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville and Oregon — removing both Texas and Miami from his previously announced top eight. Auburn, Purdue, Tennessee and Xavier were cut from his July top-12.

Kinney, a 6-foot-3, 188-pound lead guard from Newport, Kentucky, averaged 20.1 points, 5.0 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 2.3 steals last season with OTE's RWE program. He is rated the No. 1 point guard and No. 13 overall prospect by 247Sports, and No. 17 overall by ESPN. His decision show is set for 1:15 p.m. ET on Sept. 28.

He also earned NBPA Top 100 Camp First-Team honors this summer after averaging 22 points, 5 rebounds and 6.3 assists and shooting efficiently from the field and from three. Running with Wildcat Select, Kinney earned adidas 3SSB Session II Offensive MVP (listed at 25.3 PPG) and also logged a steady 3SSB session line around 20 PPG, 4 RPG, 4 APG across events.

Miami had been included when Kinney cut his list to eight in August, which was great news for Jai Lucas and company. But the Hurricanes did not make the final round, as Kinney comes to his final conclusion.

The recruiting industry remains split on where Kinney will land, but recent momentum has tilted toward Kansas. Louisville is also widely viewed as a prime contender. Miami, meanwhile, moves on to other 2026 backcourt targets. Currently, Miami does not have any commits for the 2026 class but the 2025 class ended up turning out pretty well once Lucas got to town.
