The Gators led 46-36 at halftime and never trailed after the opening minutes. Florida converted 21 points off turnovers, made 11 three-pointers and finished the game with 17 assists.
Miami only had six assists as a team and scored just seven points off turnovers.
Somto Cyril scored 13 points on 4-of-5 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds in 27 minutes for the Hurricanes, providing an efficient presence inside. Shelton Henderson contributed seven points and eight rebounds but struggled offensively, going 2-of-13 from the field. Caleb Gaskins logged four points and three rebounds on 1-of-4 shooting for the night.
Florida shot 44% from the field (23-of-52) and 42% from three-point range (11-of-26), while Miami finished at 33% overall (19-of-57) and just 25% from beyond the arc (4-of-16).
Alex Condon added nine points and seven rebounds with three assists for Florida, while Boogie Fland finished with nine points, four assists and four steals. Miami's Reneau finished with five points on 1-of-6 shooting and four rebounds in 22 minutes, struggling to find consistent touches against Florida's interior.
Overall, Lucas' team was able to hang with the No. 1 team in the country and that is a major positive to start the season. But the Hurricanes were clearly outmatched and there will be certain things that need to be revisited before Miami faces Wagner on Nov. 6.
