Notre Dame at Miami 2025 opener gets Sunday night Labor Day weekend spot

Notre Dame at Miami will have a Sunday night Labor Day weekend prime time spot as announced on Thursday.

The Miami Hurricanes will open the 2025 season in primetime versus Notre Dame on the Sunday night of Labor Day weekend, as announced by the Hurricanes' X account on Thursday. Notre Dame returns to Miami after defeating Penn State 27-24 in the 2025 Orange Bowl College Football Semifinals on Jan. 9.

Miami beat Notre Dame 41-8 in 2017 in the last game between the Hurricanes and Fighting Irish. Notre Dame finished the 2024 season 14-2 and was the national runner-up to Ohio State. Miami and Notre Dame will both have new quarterbacks entering the 2025 season.

Carson Beck transferred from Georgia to Miami. Notre Dame loses QB Riley Leonard, who had an exceptional season after transferring from Duke. Miami returns three starters on offense, all on the offensive line and five on defense. Both rosters will evolve through the spring when the 10-day April transfer portal window is open.

Miami currently has the No. 4 ranked 2025 transfer class per On3 and Notre Dame is No. 42. Outgoing Notre Dame transfers have a five-day window after the national championship game, which ends on Saturday to enter the transfer portal.

Miami vs. Notre Dame game details have been released

The game time announcement for Notre Dame at Miami was part of a bigger release by the ACC for Week 0 and Week 1 for the 2025 season. Notre Dame at Miami was originally scheduled for Aug. 30, before being pushed back a day. Notre Dame leads the all-time series with Miami 18-8-1.

In addition to Notre Dame, Miami will also host Bethune-Cookman, South Florida, and Florida in non-conference action. Louisville, North Carolina State, Stanford and Syracuse play at Hard Rock Stadium in ACC play. Miami is at Florida State, Pittsburgh, SMU, and Virginia Tech in its ACC road games.

Notre Dame at Miami has the potential of being a top-10 showdown in Week 1. CBS Sports ranks Miami No. 3 and Notre Dame No. 6 in its way-too-early Top 25. Running back Jeremiyah Love returns for Notre Dame and C.J. Carr, the grandson of former Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr, will compete to be the starting QB.
