Paul Finebaum, long viewed as an SEC megaphone and frequent Miami skeptic, is suddenly one of the loudest voices defending the Hurricanes. And he is putting the College Football Playoff selection committee on blast to do it.

Reacting to the latest CFP rankings this week, Finebaum torched the committee for keeping Notre Dame at No. 9 while slotting Miami at No. 13, even though both are 8-2 and Miami owns a head-to-head win over the Irish from Week 1.

On ESPN's "Get Up," Finebaum zeroed in on Notre Dame's treatment in the rankings and the way Miami has been pushed to the side.

"There is a bias. Let's just go ahead and admit it. And this committee, I have no earthly idea why they can't move beyond it because they're supposed to be objective... I feel badly for Miami."

That stance is striking given where Finebaum was on Miami just two weeks ago. After the Hurricanes’ overtime loss at SMU, Finebaum was a critic of the Hurricanes. But he, along with numerous other sports media personalities, can't ignore the illogical ranking of Miami and Notre Dame.

In Tuesday night's rankings, Notre Dame came in four spots ahead of Miami. Notre Dame's losses came to unbeaten Texas A&M and Miami, while Miami's setbacks are against unranked Louisville and SMU. New CFP chair Hunter Yurachek told ESPN the committee has not yet directly compared the Irish and Hurricanes because they were placed in different tiers based on loss quality, a comment that only fueled the perception that the committee is lost on this specific issue.

Ultimately, the only thing Miami can control is how they play in their final two regular season games. The Hurricanes still need help in the ACC race and chaos above them to make the conference title game. But still, if they win out, and the committee comes to its senses, then the Hurricanes should be a lock for the CFP.
