2026 NFL Draft eve is upon us, and Miami Dolphins fans are sure to be happy with one move that analyst Peter Schrager is predicting they will make.
In fact, it is one a lot of the state of Florida will enjoy with the chance to retain an in-state player, with Schrager projecting the Dolphins will select Miami offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa at No. 11 overall. It's the first pick of a total of some 11 selections the Dolphins hold in this year's event.
Here's a look at what Schrager had to say via ESPN about the potential marriage between Miami and... Miami:
"ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Mauigoa has a herniated disk in his back and teams will have to be comfortable with that. I still think he's a high pick. Mauigoa is an immediate starter, and new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan needs to find a bunch of those. There are a lot of directions Miami could go at No. 11. Right tackle Austin Jackson missed significant time last season, and there are questions on the interior. I could absolutely see this new Dolphins regime shoring up the offensive line and building out from there."
The 11th overall pick is the first opportunity the Dolphins will have to take a player off the board, and the next time they will be selecting is also within the first round at 30th overall. The reason why the Dolphins have a second selection in the first round is because of a blockbuster trade with the Denver Broncos in which they swapped out wide receiver Jaylen Waddle for the pick.
Schrager has them taking Tennessee cornerback Jermod McCoy in a bit of a controversial selection.
"The concerns around McCoy's knee are real, so I think he does go a little later than previously thought," he wrote. "But ... I don't think he falls out of the first round. The Dolphins have 11 picks in this draft, and considering the state of their cornerback room, this is a swing worth taking. When healthy, McCoy can be a difference-maker."
How Francis Mauigoa and Jermod McCoy fit with the Dolphins
The scheme fit for Mauigoa with the Dolphins couldn't be more perfect than it is. The former Hurricane brings all the size at 6-foot-6 and and 315 pounds, and a surprising level of quickness. That's important for Mike McDaniel's offensel, which requires athletic offensive linemen who can move with ease.
As for McCoy, despite some of the injury concerns that may have some fans leery of him, brings an instant boost to any secondary. He's impressed over his career with the Vols with his aggressive competitiveness at the catch point and his ability to get receivers in an absolute jam with ease.
It's easy to see why Schrager made the projections he did in his latest mock draft with this pair that addresses both sides of the football and some major voids with priority.
