Williams completed his last six pass attempts and had completions of 36 and 40 yards. After becoming the starter late in his true freshman season in 2023, Williams can play in as many as four games in 2024 and take a redshirt as he is expected to do this season.

In his one appearance, Williams earned a 231.87 passer rating. Ward has an 182.43 passer rating in obviously far more pass attempts. Miami is sixth nationally with an 182.00 passer rating in 2024. Reese Poffenbarger had six completions in seven attempts in relief of Ward versus South Florida.

Developing Poffenbarger and Williams this season with Ward only having one year with Miami is essential for the future. Miami could potentially seek to add another transfer QB for the 2025 season. Miami has a commitment from four-star QB Luke Nickel in the 2025 class.

Nickel would be the highest-rated QB on the 2024 Miami roster. Nickel has a grade of 0.9124 as a four-star prospect in the 2024 class. True freshman Judd Anderson, Poffenbarger and Williams all have below a .900 ranking and Ward was not ranked coming out of high school in 2020.
