2 Miami football opponents named among 2024 potential breakthrough teams
The Miami football program will renew rivalries with South Florida and Virginia Tech this season. The Bulls and Hokies were named by Brad Crawford with "Nebraska, Kansas among college football's 2024 potential breakthrough teams."

Crawford touched on various reasons South Florida and Virginia Tech are potential breakthrough teams. South Florida is the only Group of Five program that signed a top 50, 2024 recruiting class. The Bulls return quarterback Byrum Brown who threw for 4,101 yards and accounted for 38 touchdowns in 2024.
Like Miami, South Florida returns a record setting wide recevier. Sean Atkins set the South Florida single-season record with 92 receptions in 2023. Brown's 26 TD passes were also a single-season South Florida record. South Florida will be charged and ready against Miami. The Bulls also play Alabama in 2024.
After a one-year hiatus, the Miami versus Virginia Tech rivalry will be renewed on September 27 at Hard Rock Stadium. Miami leads the all-time series 25-15 versus Virginia Tech. The Hurricanes have won the last three games versus the Hokies and five of the last six. Miami has won 14 of the 21 games played in South Florida.
