2 Miami football players named On3 2024 Preseason True Freshman All-Americans

Five-star defensive tackle Justin Scott and four-star running back Jordan Lyle were named to the "On3 2024 Preseason True Freshman All-American Team" on Monday. Lyle and Scott are the only Miami football players named 2024 Preseason True Freshmen All-Americans by On3.

Lyle and Scott were major reasons the 2024 Miami class ranks fifth nationally and first in the ACC by On3. Scott is the 19th-ranked signee, fourth defensive lineman and top player in Illinois in the 2024 class in the On3 Recruiting Industry Rankings. Lyle was the 114th signee, sixth RB and 17th in Florida in the On3 RIR.

On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power praised Miami as getting a massive clip from Scott after he was previously committed to Ohio State. Power graded Scott extremely athletic with "an outstanding combination of movement, skills and size. He can really move 300-plus pounds and has generated very positive buzz throughout the fall camp."

Power observed that Lyle has made a smooth transition to the college level with Miami. Power loves Lyle's "change of direction, outstanding vision, elite contact balance and just ability to run between the tackles." Power reported Lyle could be the number two back early on at Miami.

Lyle will have to compete with redshirt sophomore Ajay Allen and sophomore Mark Fletcher to earn carries behind Oregon State transfer Damien Martinez. Fletcher is returning from a lisfrank injury suffered in the Pinstripe Bowl loss to Rutgers last season. Miami could bring Fletcher along slowly at the beginning of the season.

Miami brought in transfers Simeon Barrow, C.J. Clark and Marley Cook at defensive tackle. Scott will compete with Anthony Campbell, Josh Horton and Amhad Moten for snaps at DT behind Barrow, Clark and Cook. Scott is the significantly highest-ranked DT on the 2024 Miami roster.

Defensive lineman Rueben Bain and offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa were named 2023 freshman All-Americans. Bain also earned the 2023 ACC Rookie Defensive Player of the Year. If Lyle and Scott live up to their status as 2023 preseason freshmen All-Americans, Miami should have an excellent 2024 season.
