Matt Zenitz of 247Sports and Gaby Urrutia of Inside the U reported on Friday morning the Miami football program could lose Michigan State defensive tackle Simeon Barrow less than a month after he committed to the Hurricanes. Barrow was a projected starting DT for Miami in 2024.

Urrutia reported Barrow was participating in summer conditioning with Miami and was enrolled. Barrow would have to walk on somewhere else if he chose to leave Miami. Zenitz reported that Barrow told other Miami players he was considering leaving and some others thought he already returned home to Georgia.

Zenitz reported Missouri is the leader if Barrow leaves Miami. Barrow reportedly signed an SEC agreement with LSU. If Barrow signed a previous agreement with LSU, that would prevent him from matriculating with another SEC program. Zenitz stated LSU is going to let him out of the agreement.

Barrow participated in workouts on Thursday before leaving per Urrutia. The loss of Barrow would be signficant for the Miami depth at DT in 2024. North Carolina State transfer C.J. Clark and Marley Cook from Middle Tennessee State would provide Miami a good pair of starting DT in 2024 without Barrow.

Miami returns inexperienced DTs Anthony Campbell, Joshua Horton and Ahmad Moten. Five-star true freshmen Armondo Blount and Justin Scott would have a greater opportunity to earn snaps in 2024 if Barrow leaves. Defensive lineman Rueben Bain earned ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year for Miami in 2023.

Bain's 2023 season showed the willingness of Mario Cristobal and defensive coordinator Lance Guidry to trust their freshmen. If Barrow leaves, Blount and/or Scott will likely become a part of the rotation at some point in 2024. Miami needs Campbell, Horton and Moten to develop in 2024 also.
