3 Miami football offensive breakout candidates
Running back Damien Martinez, tight end Elijah Arroyo and wide receiver Isaiah Horton should benefit from a more efficient offense for the 2024 Miami football team with breakout 2024 seasons. Martinez should balance the passing game led by Ward and Arroyo and Horton project to be key complementary receivers.
Martinez comes to Miami after being named first-team All-Pac 12 in each of the past two seasons and the 2022 Pac 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year. Martinez ran for 2,167 yards and 16 touchdowns and added 15 receptions for 187 yards in his two seasons at Oregon State
Martinez ran for 1,185 yards and nine TDs and had 11 receptions for 126 yards in 2023. Playing for Oregon State, Martinez did not receive much national publicity. Martinez should become a breakout player nationally in 2024. If Miami can challenge for an ACC Championship game berth, Martinez should compete for first-team All-ACC.
Arroyo should be ready for a full season after only playing in 11 games over the past two seasons. Arroyo played six games in 2023 with one reception for 11 yards. In three seasons, Arroyo has played in 23 games with 11 receptions for 163 yards and one TD. Fully healthy, a lot is expected from Arroyo in 2024.
Horton had 13 receptions for 168 yards and one TD in 2023. At 6'4 and 205 pounds, Horton is the biggest WR on the 2024 Miami roster. Horton projects to be the fourth WR in the Miami rotation behind returning starters Xavier Restrepo and Jacolby George and Houston transfer Sam Brown.
Horton should become a go to receiver on third down and in the red zone. In 2023, Horton had seven receptions for first downs, four of 15 or more yards and one for 25 plus. Horton made the most of his limited targets in 2024. Expect Horton to become a clutch receiver for Miami in 2024.
Miami was consistent offensively in 2023. The Hurricanes had eight games of more than 450 yards of total offense and four of 335 yards or less. With the talent Miami has offensively on its 2024 roster, they should be more efficient and explosive in 2024.
