3 seldom used Miami football players enter transfer portal
The Miami football program lost cornerback Demetrius Freeney and offensive linemen Jonathan Denis and Chris Washington to the transfer portal on Monday after safety Savion Riley's transfer was announced earlier in the day. Denis, Freeney and Washington played sparingly in 2023.
Denis who is from Homestead, played in six games with two starts in two seasons with Miami. Before transferring to Miami in 2022, Denis played two seasons at Oregon under Mario Cristobal. A fifth-year redshirt junior entering the 2024 season, Denis will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Freeney played three games during his sole season with Miami, primarily on special teams. Miami signed Freeney out of San Mateo College in 2023. The addition of Marshall transfer CB Dyoni Hill on Sunday made a path for playing time more difficult for Freeney entering the 2024 season.
The four portal departures on Monday occurred after Miami added Oregon State running back Damien Martinez, Louisville linebacker Jaylin Alderman, Hill and Houston wide receiver Sam Brown over the weekend. The spring transfer portal window closes on Tuesday. Transfers can decide on their next destinations after Tuesday.
