Quarterback play, the competition at wide behind Jacolby George and Xavier Restrepo and who emerges at tight end are the three areas to watch on offense in the spring game. The Miami football team needs more offensive consistency in 2024. That begins with the Miami spring game on Saturday.

Miami football fans can see quarterback Cam Ward in a Hurricanes uniform for the first time on Saturday during the spring game. Ward and the competition to be his backup is one of a few storylines to watch on the Miami offense during the spring game on Saturday.

How Ward looks in Miami's system under coordinator Shannon Dawson and how he connects with the receivers will be a good measure of where the Hurricanes are offensively after over a month of practice. Miami returns leading receivers Xavier Restrepo and Jacolby George in 2024.

The competition behind Ward at QB appears to be between Albany transfer Reese Poffenbarger and sophomore Emory Williams. The performance by Jacurri Brown in the spring game could be critical for his future with Miami. Brown has reportedly not been as impressive as Poffenbarger and Williams this spring and could transfer.

With George and Restrepo established at WR, who will be the third starter is still open entering th spring game. Junior Isaiah Horton and true freshman JoJo Trader have reportedly emerged as the leaders to be the third starter WR for Miami. Trader has gained national attention for his development this spring.

In addition to Horton and Trader competing for snaps at WR, freshman Ny Carr and sophomores RayRay Joseph and Robby Washington are the most likely to be in the rotation for Miami in 2024. Joseph is projected as the primary backup to Restrepo as the slot receiver.

Mario Cristobal said earlier this spring that Miami is committed to getting the tight ends more involved in the offense this spring. Elijah Arroyo is the healthiest since his freshman season in 2021. Sophomore Riley Williams led Miami TEs in receiving yards in 2023, and freshman Elija Lofton has been impressive this spring.
