5-star LB Tarvos Alford discusses Miami football before Saturday commitment
Five-star Vero Beach linebacker Tarvos "T.J." Alford discussed his Miami football recruitment with the On3 recruits podcast on Thursday ahead of his Friday commitment. Miami is currently trending second to Ohio State in the recruitment of Alford. Ohio State is listed as the prohibitive favorite by 247Sports and On3.
Five 247Sports crystal balls have been logged in favor of Ohio State for Alford. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine projects Ohio State with a 94.3 percent chance for a commitment from Alford. Miami LBs coach Derek Nicholson is leading the recruitment for Alford with defensive coordinator Lance Guidry as the secondary recruiter.
Alford has visited Miami six times. The most recent visit by Alford to Miami was in January per his On3 profile. Only Florida with eight visits has more time with Miami on their campus. Alford has taken four unofficial visits to Ohio State. South Carolina and Tennessee with two visits each are the only other programs Alford has visited multiple times.
Alford has official visits set up to Ohio State the weekend of May 31, Florida State June 7 and Miami June 21 per 247Sports. On3 stated Alford "measured in at 6-foot-2, 210 pounds with a freakish 6-foot-10 wingspan." Andrew Ivins of 247Sports projects Alford as a multi-year starter and possible power conference impact player.
"Miami’s the crib, man. My dad grew up a fan, my whole family grew up a fan. It’s just different putting on for your home town, having your whole family there supporting you. Just knowing that they’ve all got your back. Throwing up that U, it’s a different meaning to it than other things.”"

Miami currently has five commitments in the 2025 Class. Four-star LB Elijah Melendez is the only defensive player committed to Miami for 2025. Miami has recruited well at LB in the last two classes. The Hurricanes signed four LBs in the 2023 class and two in 2024. Four of the LB signees in the last two classes were four-stars.
Even if Alford commits to Ohio State as projected, expect Mario Cristobal, Guidry and Nicholson to continue strongly pursuing Alford. Under Cristobal, Miami has had success flipping players late in the cycle, particularly from Ohio State. Defensive lineman Justin Scott and running backs Mark Fletcher and Jordan Lyle have flipped to Miami from Ohio State late in the last two recruiting classes.
