Alabama players who visited Miami football as recruits

The Miami football program will have a second chance to recruit Alabama players who have 30 days to enter the transfer portal following the retirement of Nick Saban on Wednesday.

After head coach Nick Saban retired on Wednesday, Alabama players have a 30-day window (through February 9) to enter the transfer portal. Miami recruited several Alabama players in high school. The Hurricanes could potentially target Alabama players who enter the transfer portal.

Several Alabama players visited before Miami hired Mario Cristobal in December 2021. Seven players on the 2023 Alabama roster visited Arizona as recruits. Eight of the 2024 Alabama signees visited Miami. Miami was strongly considered by several of the 2024 Alabama signees.

Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer, hired on Friday, could have work to do to convince some Crimson Tide players to stay in Tuscaloosa. Alabama leading receiver Isaiah Bond entered the transfer portal on Friday and is reportedly visiting Texas this weekend. Bond has already picked up some projections that he will commit to Texas.

Miami quarterback Jacurri Brown took his unofficial visit and official visit to Coral Gables with Bond. Bond could potentially visit other schools. There have not been any reports made public if Miami is interested in pursuing Bond. Bond primarily played slot in 2023. Miami returns record setting slot receiver Xavier Restrepo in 2024.

Former five-star cornerback Dezz Ricks, who signed with Alabama in the 2023 class, entered the transfer portal on Saturday. Ricks visited Miami in October 2022. Ricks is reportedly leaning toward LSU. Miami needs to add depth at CB and could pursue Ricks.

Other current Alabama players who have not entered the transfer portal but visited Miami as recruits are quarterback Ty Simpson, edge rusher Keanu Kohtt, running back Richard Young, defensive lineman James Smith, linebacker Qua Russaw and offensive lineman Olaus Alinen per On3.

The 2024 Alabama signees would have to be released from their National Letters of Intent to leave Alabama. Quarterback Julian Sayin, tight end Caleb Odom, cornerbacks Zabien Brown and Zavier Mincey, RB Kevin Riley, WR Amari Jefferson, safety Red Morgan and OL Joseph Ionata all visited Miami as recruits.

With 27 days left for Alabama players to enter the portal, the Crimson Tide's roster will be worth watching to see which players decide to leave Tuscaloosa. Miami has added seven transfers with early portal entrees. Expect Mario Cristobal and his staff to continue being busy with transfers through the spring.
