BC ends disappointing Miami basketball season in ACC Tournament
A season that began with the Miami basketball team picked second in the ACC and 13th nationally ended on Tuesday night with a loss to Boston College in the first round of the ACC Tournament. Miami finished the season with a 10-game losing streak. The Hurricanes finished the season with a 15-17 record.
The loss to Boston College was a microcosm of the 2023-24 season. Miami began the game with a 7-2 lead. Boston College went on a 25-6 run after that and never led by less than eight the remainder of the game. After Miami cut the deficit to 34-26, Boston College went on a 13-6 run to take a 47-32 lead at halftime.
Miami rallied again in the second half, cutting the deficit to 64-56. Boston College outscored 17-9 in the final eight minutes to win 81-65. Nijel Pack returned for Miami and scored 18 points and had five rebounds. Norchad Omier had another double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds.
Matthew Cleveland was the only other Hurricane in double-figures with 12 points and six rebounds. Kyshawn George, Bensley Joseph and Wooga Poplar combined for 10 points on 4-22 from the floor. Poplar who was expected to compete to be all ACC this season finished with five points on 1-10 from the floor.
Miami was unable to stop Boston College center Quinten Post. Post scored 30 points on 10-18 from the floor, 3-6 on threes and 7-7 from the free throw line. Four players scored in double figures for Boston College. The Eagles shot 49.2 percent from the floor and made 35.5 percent from the floor.
Miami shot 38.0 percent from the floor and made seven of their 29 three-point attempts. Miami began the game making its first three three-point field goals. Boston College had 8-0 and 14-0 runs inside of its 25-6 spurt in the first half to gain control of the game. Boston College plays Clemson on Tuesday in the ACC Tournament.
