Berkeley hosting ESPN College Gameday for Miami at California

Berkeley is hosting ESPN College Gameday on Saturday for the first time ahead of the Miami at California game on Saturday.

Ahead of the Miami at California game on Saturday, Berkeley is hosting ESPN College Gameday. Berkeley is hosting College Gameday for the first time. This will be the 25th time a Miami game is featured on ESPN College Gameday. The last Miami game to be featured was at Clemson in 2020.

The first Miami game to be featured was versus Florida State in 1994. That was only the fourth ever ESPN College Gameday on location. ESPN College Gameday was live from the Orange Bowl. ESPN College Gameday was not live on the Miami campus until 2017 for the Notre Dame game.

This will be the fourth time a California game is featured on ESPN College Gameday. California was previously featured in 2004 at USC, 2007 at Oregon and 2015 at Utah. Cal lost 23-17 at USC in 2004, won 31-24 at Oregon and lost 30-24 at Utah. During the 2020 Covid season, Miami was 2-1 in games they were featured on College Gameday.

With the Golden Bears and Hurricanes featured on College Gameday, there will be more focus on the game that night and the teams this season. Expect a Cam Ward feature and on California quarterback Fernando Mendoza. Mendoza is a Christopher Columbus High School alum.

Miami head coach Mario Cristobal and offensive line coach Alex Mirabal are also Columbus alums. Hurricanes' offensive linemen Luis Cristobal and Ryan Rodriguez and defensive tackle Daylen Russell are Columbus graduates on the Miami roster. The game should be personal for Mendoza.

California has started 3-1. Florida State who lost 42-16 at SMU to drop to 1-4, gave California their only 2024 loss. California had a bye this week. Miami is 10th in the ESPN Football Power Index and California is 50th. Miami is given a 71.5 percent chance to beat Cal by the FPI and FanDuel has the Hurricanes as an 11.5-point favorite.
