Cam Ward dominating 2024 weekly ACC Awards
Cam Ward threw for 342 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 57 yards and another score to lead Miami to a 38-34 comeback win over Virginia Tech. Ward rallied Miami from a 34-23 fourth quarter deficit to earn the win and ACC Quarterback of the Week. Ward was also ACC QB of the Week after week one at Florida and week four at South Florida.
Ward completed 26 passes in 35 attempts for 385 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 33 yards in a 41-17 win over Florida. In the win over South Florida, Ward was 24-34 for 404 yards, three TDs, and one interception with five carries for 43 yards rushing in a 50-15 Miami win.
Ward is the first player in ACC history to throw for over 300 yards and three TDs in each of his first five games to start a season. With five 300-yard games this season Ward is tied for ninth in Miami history with Brock Berlin and Jacory Harris. Bernie Kosar set the Miami single-season record with eight 300-yard games in 1984.
Ward leads the ACC with 1,782 passing yards, 11.1 yards per attempt, 18 touchdowns and a 195.08 passer rating. Ward is more than living up to his recognition as the ACC Preseason Player of the Year. After entering the season ninth, Ward is now third in the FanDuel Heisman Trophy Odds.
The Pro Football Focus grade of 92.6 that Ward has is the highest among the top three Heisman Trophy favorites. Alabama QB Jalen Milroe, who is currently the Heisman Trophy favorite, has an 87.1 PFF grade. Colorado defensive back/wide receiver Travis Hunter has an 84.6 offensive grade and an 85.1 defensive grade.
Miami and Ward will face tough challenges in the final seven games of the regular season. The Hurricanes will be up against five of the top seven pass defenses in the ACC. They have already played against Virginia Tech, who ranks fifth and will not be facing the second-ranked Hurricanes in the last seven weeks.
