Cam Ward is consensus Heisman Trophy favorite

After becoming the first ACC Player ever to throw for over 300 yards and three touchdowns in his first three games, Miami quarterback Cam Ward is now the consensus Heisman Trophy favorite.

The record-setting pace by Cam Ward early in his Miami career has made quarterback Cam Ward the current consensus favorite to win the Heisman Trophy. Ward is the first ACC quarterback to throw for over 300 yards and three touchdowns in his first three games. Ward is also the first Miami QB to throw for over 300 yards in his first three starts.

FanDuel lists Ward as the Heisman Trophy favorite after three weeks at plus 450. Ward was nearly unanimous in the On3 weekly Heisman Trophy voting with 48 out of a possible 50 points. Ward is in the top 10 nationally in nearly every passing category, despite not playing most of the second half in the last two games.

Ward is currently third nationally averaging 345.0 passing yards per game, first with 11 touchdown passes, 10th completing 73.0 percent of his passes, third averaging 11.6 yards per attempt and fourth with a 209.25 passer rating. Led by Ward Miami is second nationally averaging 405.3 passing yards per game.

Ward moved up in the Heisman Trophy odds and projected polls after Texas QB Quinn Ewers suffered an injury that kept him out for the rest of the game versus Texas-San Antonio and will sideline him versus Louisiana-Monroe for the Longhorns' game this Saturday.

Ward has skyrocketed up the Heisman Trophy odds and rankings after just three weeks. Ward will have another opportunity for more people to watch him play when Miami is at South Florida on Saturday night on ESPN. Miami will play its 2024 ACC opener on ESPN on Friday, September 27.

Marquee games at Louisville on October 19 and versus Florida State on October 26 will be more opportunities in front of a national audience for Ward to continue his Heisman Trophy candidacy. Vinny Testaverde in 1986 and Gino Torretta in 1992 are the only Heisman Trophy winners from Miami.
