Cam Ward on pace to obliterate Miami single season records
Through the first four games of the 2024 season, Cam Ward has completed 72.4 percent of his pass attempts for 1,439 yards, 14 touchdowns and two interceptions. The single-season Miami records are 63.7 percent set by Tyler Van Dyke in 2023, 29 TDs by Steve Walsh in 1988 and Bernie Kosar with 3,642 yards in 1984.
At his current page, Ward will break the single-season passing yardage record in the 11th game and the touchdown record in Miami's ninth game this season. Miami hosts Florida State in week nine and is at Georgia Tech in week 11. Three opponents remaining on the 2024 Miami schedule allow greater than 63.7 percent of passes to be completed.
Syracuse allows opponents to complete 64.8 percent of their passes, Georgia Tech is at 66.2 percent and Wake Forest is last in the ACC at 72.5 percent. Florida State is slightly below the single-season standard set by Van Dyke, allowing opponents to complete 63.0 percent of their pass attempts.
The best games for Ward this season were completing 74.3 percent of his passes at Florida, five TD passes versus Ball State and 404 yards at South Florida. Miami will face six of the top seven pass defenses in the ACC over the next eight weeks. Miami has the third-best pass defense in the ACC.
Conversely, Wake Forest is the only team in the bottom seven in the ACC in passing yards allowed per game on the Miami conference schedule. Ward will earn the records he is on pace to set this season. All of the teams on the 2024 Miami ACC schedule allow less than the 359.8 passing yards per game Ward is averaging this season.
Pittsburgh is last in the ACC allowing nine passing TDs. Georgia Tech is tied for 14th and worst among the 2024 Miami ACC opponents allowing eight passing touchdowns. Ward and the Miami pass offense will be tested for the remainder of the season. Expect Ward to continue thriving in the Shannon Dawson offense.
