Cam Ward passes for over 300 yards and four TDs in first half

Cam Ward had a huge first half for Miami as the Hurricanes led Ball State 31-0 at halftime. Ward completed 17 passes in 25 attempts for 317 yards and four touchdowns. Miami exploded with three TDs in the final five minutes. Ward has two TD passes to Xavier Restrepo and one each to Chris Johnson and Elijah Arroyo.

Ward completed nine passes in 11 attempts for 135 yards and a 21-yard TD pass to Restrepo in the first quarter. Miami led 10-0 at the end of the first quarter. Ward was eight of 14 for 183 yards with three TDs and no interceptions in the second quarter. Ward completed 12 passes of over 15 yards in the first half.

After punting on their first possession of the second quarter, Ward completed TD passes of 37 yards to running back Chris Johnson, 21 yards to tight end Elijah Arroyo and following an interception, 21 yards to Restrepo in a 3:16 span to stretch the lead from 10-0 to 31-0 at halftime.

Jacolby George led Miami with five receptions for 92 yards in the first half. Restrepo had three for 47 yards and the two TDs. Arroyo had two receptions for 53 yards in the first half. Ward completed passes to eight different receivers in the first half. Ward is approaching Miami single-game records.

Stephen Morris holds the Miami single-game record with 566 passing yards versus North Carolina State in 2012 and Jarren Williams set the Miami single-game touchdown pass record with six versus Louisville in 2019. Ward is unlikely to play long enough in the second half to reach Morris' record.

How long Mario Cristobal and offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson want to play Ward in the second half will determine if he has a chance at Williams' record. Ward also went over 1,000 yards passing on the season with 1.006. Bernie Kosar holds the season record with 3,642 passing yards in 1985.
