Cam Ward ranking in 2025 NFL Draft's top 10 QB prospects
Cam Ward is ranked fifth in the "2025 NFL Draft's top 10 quarterback prospects: Early look features Shedeur Sanders, Jalen Milroe in front" by Brad Crawford of 247Sports. After Sanders and Milroe, Crawford has Quinn Ewers of Texas third and Carson Beck of Georgia fourth ahead of Ward.
Drew Allar of Penn State. Conner Weigman of Texas A&M, Graham Mertz of Florida, Noah Fifita of Arizona and Dillon Gabriel of Oregon complete Crawford's top 10. The projections for Ward are varied. Crawford projects Ward to be selected day on two (second or third round) or later (third through seventh rounds).
Ryan Wilson of CBSSports (247Sports partner site) projects Ward as the ninth pick in the 2025 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints. Wilson said, "Ward would've likely been a top-100 pick had he declared for the 2024 draft; a strong showing for the U could catapult him into the Round 1 conversation."
Ward spent two seasons at Washington State and two at Incarnate Word in San Antonio before transferring to Miami. Ward played in an Air Raid offense at Washington State that is similar to the one run by Miami offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson.
"5. CAM WARD, MIAMI
- Brad Crawford, 247Sports
247Sports early prediction: Day 2 or later
Cam Ward was heading to the NFL Draft this year, before Miami's NIL arm convinced him otherwise for one more season of college ball in the ACC. With more than 3,100 career snaps across four years at FCS Immaculate Word and Washington State, Ward will be one of the most experienced options in next year's cycle, which means a great deal to NFL teams. Over that stretch of games, Ward has thrown for 13,822 yards and 119 touchdowns. His toughest assignment comes in the ACC as the leader of the Hurricanes."
The consensus varies greatly on Ward. Ward is projected ninth on the 2025 NFL Mock Draft Database big board on Friday. Ward was 35th on the 2025 NFL Mock Draft Database on Monday. If Ward is a 2025 first-round pick that will likely be the result of a good 2024 Miami season.
Miami is in the process of adding help for Ward on offense in 2024. Oregon State transfer running back Damien Martinez and Houston wide receiver Sam Brown are visiting Coral Gables this weekend. Adding Brown and Martinez would significantly help Miami offensively in 2024.
Brown would give Miami an elite group of WRs with Xavier Restrepo and Jacolby George. Martinez would project as the Miami starting RB with Mark Fletcher uncertain to begin the season with a Lisfranc (foot) Injury. Ward could be the first Miami QB drafted since Brad Kaaya in 2017.
