Examining cornerbacks who took official visits with Miami football program

The Miami football program was busy hosting 10 cornerbacks during the June window of official visits began.

The Miami football programs hosted one five-star cornerback, five four-stars and four three-stars during the June window official visits. Miami has received a commitment from three-star CB Timothy Merritt following his official visit the weekend of June 7. Miami will find out on Thursday from four-star CB Chris Ewald.

Other CBs who took official visits with Miami during June per the 247Sports and On3 databases are Aidan Anding, Andrew Purcell, Trystan Haynes and Jaboree Antoine the weekend of May 31, Adonyss Curtis, Mark Manfred and Merritt the weekend of June 7, Ewald and five-star D.J. Pickett the weekend of June 21 and Ben Hanks the weekend of June 21.

Per 247Sports and On3 projections, Ewald is the sole CB trending to Miami other than Merritt. Miami also received a commitment from four-star safety Amari Wallace is has also been listed as CB. Merritt and Wallace are currently the only defensive backs committed to Miami in the 2025 class.

Ewald is one of the most important prospects for Miami in the 2025 class. Josh Edwards of Cats Pause, the 247Sports Kentucky site logged the only crystal ball for Ewald which projects him to Miami. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine projects Miami with a 90.7 percent chance for an Ewald commitment.

Anding visited Miami the weekend of May 31. The 247Sports composite rankings have Anding as the 560th prospect, 50th CB and 22nd player in Louisiana in the 2025 class out of Ruston. There are two 247Sports crystal balls projecting Anding to commit to Texas. The On3 RPM gives Texas a 93.0 percent chance for an Anding commitment.

After taking official visits with Georgia, Miami and Kentucky in June, Purcell committed to the Wildcats on June 17. Purcell is the 442nd prospect, 23rd CB and 19th player in Alabama in the 2025 class out of Enterprise. At 5'9, Purcell is a bit undersized compared to the CBs with length Miami seems to prefer.

Miami brought Haynes in for an official visit hoping to flip him from Oklahoma. Haynes took official visits to Miami, Texas A&M, Notre Dame and Oklahoma in June. At 6'2 and 175 pounds, Haynes fits the ideal CB that Cristobal likes. Miami is likely to continue strongly recruiting Haynes.

Antoine de-commited from LSU on June 23. The Tigers are still the projected leader for a commitment at 95.4 percent per On3. Antoine's only official were to Miami the weekend of May 31 and Florida State June 14 per 247Sports and On3. Expect Antoine to be one of the most highly sought-after 2025 CBs.

Manfred visited Miami the weekend of June 7 with Merritt. There was some thought at the time that Miami might be able to secure commitments from Manfred and Merritt. Manfred took June official visits to Miami, Cincinnati, Mississippi and Missouri before committing to the Tigers on June 23.

Currie who is a high-level four-star prospect was another potential Miami flip when they hosted him the weekend of June 8. Currie committed to Texas A&M on May 24. The 247Sports composite rankings have Currie as the 68th prospect, seventh CB and fourth player in California out of Lancaster, Quartz Hill.

Pickett was the one five-star 2025 CB to make an official visit to Miami in June. The On3 Industry rankings have Pickett as the sixth-best prospect, second CB and top player in Florida in the 2025 class. Pickett is projected as a CB by 247Sports. Pickett is the cousin of Miami 2024 signee Booker Pickett Jr.

Hanks who is a Florida legacy currently does not have any crystal balls projecting which program he will commit to. The On3 RPM projects Florida with a 47.3 percent chance for a Hanks commitment and Miami at 24.9 percent. All of the other programs recruiting Hanks are given below a 10 percent chance for a commitment.

Cornerback was clearly a focus for Miami with the prospect they brought in for official visits in June. Getting a commitment from the 6'2 and 180-pound Merritt and Wallace who can potentially play CB are good foundations in the 2025 class. If Ewald commits to Miami, the Hurricanes will have an excellent secondary in the 2025 class.
