Former Miami football commit DE Romello Height potential good transfer fit
Former Auburn and USC defensive end Romello Height who was committed to the Miami football 2020 class would be a good fit for the Hurricanes. Height is visiting Miami this weekend per multiple reports. Height flipped to Auburn late in the 2020 class and spent two seasons with the Tigers before transferring to USC.
Height was the 384th prospect, 25th outside linebacker and 36th recruit in Georgia in the 2020 class out of Dublin. Height redshirted as a true freshman and early enrollee at Auburn in 2020. As a redshirt freshman in 2021, Height had 18 tackles and three tackles for loss for Auburn.
Height transferred to USC during the 2022 offseason. Height started his first two games for USC versus Rice and Stanford in 2022 before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury. Returning from the injury, Height had 20 tackles, 6.0 TFLs and 4.0 sacks in 2023 for USC.
Miami has an exceptionally deep group of edge rushers on its 2024 roster. Miami returns ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year Rueben Bain. Nyjalik Kelly and Akheem Mesidor who entered the 2023 season as starters return from injuries that ended their year prematurely. Miami also added Marshall transfer edge rusher Elijah Alston.
Alston had 107 tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, one interception that he returned for a touchdown, four passes defended, one fumble recovery and four forced fumbles in four seasons at Marshall. Alston and Height are both 6'3. Miami gains a bit more mass with Alston listed at 248 pounds than the 230 pound Height.
Bain and Mesidor have the versatility to move inside on passing downs, Having Alston, Kelly and potentially Height on the roster would provide Miami with more depth and flexibility on the defensive line in 2024. Height is expected to take other visits before deciding on his transfer destination.
