Former Miami running back Thad Franklin returns Saturday with Florida AM
Former Miami running back Thad Franklin returns on Saturday with Florida A&M. After two seasons with Miami, Franklin transferred to Louisiana-Monroe in 2023. Franklin transferred to Florida A&M in the 2024 portal cycle. Early in the 2024 season, Franklin has been a productive player for Florida A&M.
In two seasons with Miami, Franklin had 73 carries for 381 yards, seven touchdowns, and seven receptions for 59 yards. Franklin was fourth in Miami in 2022 with 209 rushing yards and led the Hurricanes with five TDs on the ground. Franklin left Miami after Mario Cristobal's first season in 2022.
Louisiana-Monroe hardly utilized Franklin during his one season with the Warhawks. Franklin only had one carry for 47 yards and a touchdown at Louisiana-Monroe in 2023. Franklin has already had more rushing attempts in two games with FAMU than with Louisiana-Monroe in 2023.
Franklin has 16 carries for 56 yards rushing and five receptions for 48 yards and TDs. Florida A&M has a balanced offense. Franklin is third in carries and rushing yards, fourth in receptions and fifth in receiving yards for Florida A&M in 2024. Franklin is listed as the second-team running back with Kelvin Dean.

Freshman Bo Summersett is listed as the first-team RB on the FAMU depth chart. Dean leads FAMU with 14 carries for 72 yards. Summerset has 13 carries for 63 yards and starting quarterback Daniel Richardson has 10 carries for 59 yards. No one else has more than one carry for FAMU.
FAMU has relied heavily on the pass in their first two games. Richardson has completed 66.2 percent of his pass attempts for 568 yards and six TDs in FAMU's wins over Norfolk State and South Carolina State. Miami has to account for him as a runner and passer. Franklin is a receiver to watch out of the backfield.

Summerset has three receptions for 11 yards and Dean one for 10. Koby Gross leads FAMU with nine receptions for 151 yards and a TD. Jamari Garrett has nine receptions for 118 yards and two TDs. Franklin and Garrett are the only FAMU players with two TDs this season.
