Hanna Cavinder announced on X that she is returning to the Miami basketball program after taking off the 2023-24 season. Cavinder provides Miami with an experienced and productive guard to a roster that has lost multiple players to the transfer portal. Cavinder was a key reserve on the 2023 Miami run to the Elite Eight.
In her one season with Miami, Cavidner averaged 3.8 points per game, 1.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists, while shooting 36.8 percent from the floor, 30.7 percent on three-point attempts and 82.6 percent from the free throw line. Cavinder spent three seasons at Fresno State before transferring with her sister Haley to Miami.
Hanna Cavinder averaged 15.7 PPG, 3.3 RPG, 3.8 APG, and 1.8 steals while shooting 43.1 percent from the floor, 29.4 percent on three-point attempts and 78.0 percent from the free throw line. Haley had previously announced in October she was transferring to TCU for the 2024-25 season.
There is no word if Haley plans to join Hanna in returning to Miami. The Hurricanes will have a significantly different look next season. Long-time head coach Katie Meier recently announced her retirement. Miami hired Toledo head coach Tricia Cullop to replace Meier.
"My last season of basketball was one of the most successful and challenging years of my life, but it helped me evolve and grow in ways that are unexplainable.Hanna Cavinder on TikTok
Over these past few months I have been itching to get back to the game that I thought I lost the love and passion for. Nothing quite fills the void that this sport brings me.
With that all being said, I have decided to return for one more season.
Let’s run it back miami
I had a purpose before everyone had an opinion 🧡

Lemyah Hylton and Jasymne Roberts are the only returning players on the Miami roster. Miami brings in a stellar recruiting class led by guard Leah Harmon. The Hurricanes will need to add several transfers to fill out the roster. If Haley remains at TCU, Hanna Cavinder projects to have a much bigger role for Miami than she did in 2022-23/
The Cavinders became known during Covid for building up a TikTok following of 4.5 million. Cavinder's messages on TikTok and X varied slightly. Hanna Cavinder made it clear on the shared TikTok account with Haley that she is returning to the Hurricanes stating "Let's run it back Miami"
Hanna was the 71st point guard in the 2019 class per ESPN. Haley was the 28th-ranked 2019 point guard. Hanna earned All-Mountain West in 2020 and 2021, was named to the 2020 Mountain West All-Freshman Team and was a three-time Mountain West Player of the Week.
The return of Cavinder is a huge addition for Cullop as she builds her inaugural roster at Miami. With the roster decimated other than Cavinder, Hylton and Roberts, Cullop can sell playing time with a bright future led by the outstanding recruiting class coming in.
