How Kam Kinchens and James Williams performed at NFL Combine
With defensive backs and tight ends competing in the NFL Combine on Friday, former Miami safeties Kamren Kinchens and James Williams had their turn to perform in front of NFL coaches, executives and scouts. The numbers for Kinchens and Williams were near the bottom among safeties at the NFL Combine.
Prospects were timed in the 40-yard dash, 10-yard splits, broad and vertical jumps, three-cone drill, 20-yard shuttle and bench press. Kinchens and Williams did not participate in the bench press, 20-yard shuttle, or the three-cone drill. Kinchens is the 47th-ranked player on the NFL Mock Draft Database Big Board.
Williams is the 121st player on the NFL Mock Draft Database Big Board. The numbers Kinchens and Williams posted on Friday could impact their draft status. Kinchens is regarded as one of the best safeties in the 2024 NFL Draft. Williams could be moved to linebacker in the NFL but is listed as a safety at the NFL Combine.
Kinchens and Williams each ran a 4.65 40-yard dash on Friday. They tied for last among safeties. Kinchens and Williams had 1.59 10-yard splits. Kinchens and Williams tied for last with Jaylen Key of Alabama and Kitan Oladapo of Oregon State. Kinchens recorded a 35" vertical jump that was 15th among safeties.
Williams had a 9'9" in the broad jump and Kinchens recorded a 9'2". Williams was 16th in the vertical jump. Kinchens finished 20th and last in the broad jump. The numbers for Kinchens and Williams on Friday were a bit concerning. We won't truly know until the NFL Draft next month how much of an impact where Kinchens and Williams are selected.
After former Miami defensive tackle Leonard Taylor performed on Thursday, no Hurricanes will participate in the NFL Combine on Saturday. Guard Javion Cohen and center Matt Lee will compete in the NFL Combine on Sunday. Cohen, Kinchens, Taylor and Williams are projected to be drafted. Lee is expected to be an undrafted free agent.
