Andrew Ivins, the Director of Scouting for 247Sports, named Hurricanes commit Luke Nickel in his "Battle Miami: Top performers from a loaded tournament where 5-star Dakorien Moore took over." Ivins also praised Nickel on Saturday for his performance early at Battle Miami.

In his post on Saturday, Ivins said Nickel was"flashing clean mechanics and plenty of tight spirals...(and) was one of the few signal callers that wasn’t afraid to throw the ball into the teeth of a defense." In his scouting report, Ivins praised Nickel for his ability to read defenses and accuracy.

Nickel has shown the ability to lead teams. Alpharetta Milton won a Georgia State title behind Nickel. Nickel led Cam Newton's team to a title at Battle Miami. The 247 Sports composite rankings currently list Nickel as the 413th overall prospect, 30th QB and 49th player in Georgia in the 2025 class.

The consensus on Nickel is that he is better than his recruiting ranking. The summer camps and seven-on-seven competitions will impact where Nickel finishes in the rankings. Several 2024 Miami commits moved up in the rankings. Nickel seems destined to finish significantly higher than his current ranking.

"—LUKE NICKEL, QB, MIAMI COMMIT: Nickel led Cam Newton’s team to a championship, delivering big-time tosses at big-time moments. From a mechanical standpoint, there’s a lot to like with Nickel. He also processed at a high level, especially on Sunday when he beat a few blitzes with hot reads. Nickel might not be elite in one singular category, but he’s a well-rounded signal caller that can accurately distribute the football and frequently on time. He enters his senior year with a 23-6 record under the lights after leading Milton to a state title in Georgia’s highest classification this past season."

Nickel seems to have the intangibles to succeed in college. Accuracy, the ability to lead and his skill reading defenses are among the consensus from scouting reports on Nickel. Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons and National Recruiting Analyst Sam Spiegelman of On3 also praised Nickel, naming him as an eye-catcher from Battle Miami.

"Luke Nickel was one of the most consistent quarterbacks at this event. His timing stood out and he delivered nice ball after nice ball from different platform. His game has contributed to trend upward over the last six months and the Miami commit was hot all weekend."

Nickel could be a steal for Miami in the 2024 class. Miami will be transitioning at QB in 2025 for the second straight season. Washington State transfer QB Cam Ward has one season of eligibility with Miami in 2024. Redshirt Sophomore Jacurri Brown, sophomore Emory Williams and true freshman Judd Anderson are behind Ward at QB in 2024.

Miami has done an exceptional job recruiting by signing consecutive top 10 classes under Mario Cristobal. Anderson and Williams at quarterback were both three-star signees. Nickel is destined to move up in the 2025 rankings. Miami has three 2025 commits with linebacker Elijah Melendez and wide receiver Waden Charles.
