Incoming transfers top Miami football post spring DT depth chart
The depth chart for the Miami football team at defensive tackle changed following spring practice. Miami veteran Jared Harrison-Hunte transferred to SMU and the Hurricanes added Michigan State DT Simeon Barrow. Barrow projects to start with C.J. Clark who transferred to Miami during the winter transfer portal window.
Miami also added Middle Tennessee State transfer DT Marley Cook during the winter portal window. Barrow, Clark and Cook project as the top three DTs in the 2024 Miami rotation. Miami returns Anthony Campbell, Joshua Horton and Ahmad Moten at DT to add depth in 2024.
Miami signed five-star DL Armondo Blount and Justin Scott, four-star Artavius Jones and three-star Daylen Russell in the 2024 class as prospects who can play DT. Blount is versatile and can play end and tackle Jones, Russell and Scott are more traditional DT. All of them will need various amounts of time to develop.
Sophomore Rueben Bain and fifth-year redshirt junior Akheem Mesidor who are the projected 2024 Miami starting edge rusher will see snaps at DT in 2024 primarily on passing downs. Miami defensive coordinator Lance Guidry has a versatile group of DL to work with in 2024.
Guidry will have nearly an entirely new group at DT in 2024. Bain frequently played DT on passing downs in 2023. Mesidor missed all but two games in 2023 due to a foot injury. Campbell played in one game and Horton in three in 2023. Moten had two tackles and one interception playing in three games in 2023.
Miami projects to have one of the best defensive lines nationally in 2024. The Hurricane DTs project to be stable, but not dominant players. Miami has a potentially dominant group of edge rushers led by Bain and recently added Tennessee transfer Tyler Baron. Miami needs its DTs to be solid versus the run and tie-up blockers on passing downs.
