Jacurri Brown enters transfer portal after falling on Miami football depth chart
After being the fourth quarterback to enter the spring game, multiple reports emerged on Tuesday that quarterback Jacurri Brown is entering the transfer portal. Brown leaves after two seasons with the Miami football program and has three years of eligibility remaining after redshirting in 2023.
With the departure of Brown, Miami has starter Cam Ward and backups Reese Poffenbarger, Emory Williams and 2024 signee Judd Anderson remaining at QB. Miami will not likely seek a QB to replace Brown on the 2024 roster. Four-star prospect Luke Nickel is committed to Miami at QB in the 2025 class.
Brown completed 20 passes in 31 attempts for 181 yards, one touchdown and one interception with 15 carries for 57 yards and two touchdowns in his one 2023 appearance in the Pinstripe Bowl loss to Rutgers. Brown finished his Miami career completing 61.8 percent of his pass attempts for 411 yards, four TDs and four interceptions.
Brown's prowess as a runner, his big arm and his 6'4 and 220-pound frame is what will intrigue teams pursuing him as a transfer. Brown had 68 carries for 278 yards rushing and two TDs in nine games over two seasons with Miami. Brown has reportedly improved his accuracy since signing with Miami in 2022.
Per David Lake of Inside the U, Brown completed four passes in eight attempts for 93 yards and one touchdown and led Miami in the spring game with 39 yards rushing. Brown received offers from 13 other Power Five programs per 247Sports. Brown's only official visit was to Miami per 247Sports and On3.
Miami has lost 18 transfers since the end of the 2023 season. Joining Brown in the transfer portal on Tuesday from Miami were edge rusher Nyjalik Kelly, offensive lineman Logan Sagapolu and running back Tre'Vonte Citizen and Henry Parrish. Miami entered Tuesday five over the NCAA FBS roster limit of 85 players on scholarship.
The spring transfer portal window opened on Tuesday and will close on April 30. As many as 12 Miami players are expected to enter the transfer portal during the spring window. Expect defensive backs, running back and potentially wide receiver to be the positions Miami targets in the transfer portal.
