Jason Taylor discusses son with Miami football and when he had to get on him
During his meeting with reporters on Thursday defensive line coach Jason Taylor was asked what it is like having his son Isaiah in the Miami football program. Isaiah Taylor transferred from Arizona to Miami during the 2023 offseason. Jason Taylor is in his third season on the Miami coaching staff and second as DL coach.
Jason Taylor went into detail about their relationship as coach and father-son, plus a recent occurrence when he had to get on him recently. In three seasons at Arizona, Taylor had 56 tackles, one tackle for loss, one interception and three pass breakups. Taylor had his best season in 2022.
Playing in 11 games during the 2022 season, Taylor finished 10th on Arizona with 40 tackles and had his one TFL, sole interception and all three pass breakups. Taylor's numbers slipped in 2023 with 15 tackles. Taylor is expected to be a backup with Miami behind fellow transfers Mishael Powell and Savion Riley.
Jason Taylor is in his second season as a DL coach for Miami after being an analyst in 2022. Before coming to Miami, Taylor was the DL coach at St. Thomas Aquinas from 2017 through 2019. During his final two seasons (2020 and 2021) Taylor was the Defensive Coordinator at St. Thomas Aquinas.
"It's great you know having my family here is great. You know I'll treat him, he's obviously my blood and as and my son, but and I don't coach him. He's not of my position. So you

know I see him, you know we obviously talk, he's my son. We talk every day, but you know, he's got (cornerbacks) coach (Chevis) Jackson and G's (defensive coordinator Lance Guidry) obviously back there coaching the safeties. So you know I got on, I jumped his butt a little bit today. Not bad but he made a mistake and I happened to be in the area. So like I said, I'm an equal opportunity coacher. I'll get on everybody if I have to in a good way."
Isaiah Taylor was the 766th-ranked transfer and 76th safety in the 247Sports 2023 transfer portal rankings. As a high school prospect, Taylor was the 1,561 overall player,132nd safety and 212th recruit in Florida in the 2021 247Sports composite rankings and rated three stars.
Isaiah Taylor had one of the biggest defensive plays in Arizona history with the gam-clinching interception in a 38-35 win over Arizona State in 2022. That was the Wildcats' first win over the Sun Devils in six years. Taylor will experience the three biggest Miami rivals during his first season with the Hurricanes in 2024.
Miami opens the season at Florida on August 31, hosts Virginia Tech on Friday, September 27 and Florida State on October 26. Taylor should become an important part of the Miami rotation at safety as an experienced player. Miami is relatively thin at safety entering the 2024 season.
