Brad Crawford of 247Sports praised Miami defensive line coach Jason Taylor in his article "College football recruiting: Signing Day reveals nation's 10 best recruiters in 2024." Taylor finished fourth nationally in the final recruiting rankings after an extremely quiet National Signing Day concluded last Wednesday.
Taylor was the highest-ranked recruiter who primarily worked in the ACC in the 2024 class. Syracuse head coach Fran Brown, who was hired in December, finished as the top recruiter overall in the 2024 class. Brown was previously the defensive backs coach at Georgia.
Taylor was credited with Miami signing five blue-chip players in the 2024 class. That includes three five-star signees. Miami exceeded its goal of signing the best 2024 DL class. Taylor accomplished becoming a top-five recruiter in his second full season as a college football assistant coach.
The ability for DL to play for a Hall of Fame player at their position helped Taylor recruit elite prospects. Taylor was the primary recruiter for four of the five 2024 blue-chip Miami signees. Miami will have a dominant DL in a few years if they develop the signees in the 2024 class.
"4. JASON TAYLOR, MIAMI DL- Brad Crawford, 247Sports
Commits responsible for in 2024 class: 5
The Taylor file: The ACC's top-ranked recruiter after he put in work for Mario Cristobal at Miami...finished the early signing period with several high-end commits. Taylor is credited as the secondary recruiter for Chicago (Ill.) St. Ignatius five-star defensive lineman Justin Scott, playing a major role in the nation’s No. 7 overall player signing with the Hurricanes after flipping from Ohio State in November."
Taylor was the primary recruiter for five-star signees Armondo Blount and Marquise Lightfoot and four-star prospects Booker Pickett Jr. and Elias Rudolph. Co-DL coach Joe Salave'a was the primary recruiter for Scott. Flipping Scott from Ohio State was huge for the Miami football program.
In addition to Taylor being the top-ranked 2024 recruiter in the ACC, Miami wide receivers coach Kevin Beard was second. Miami hired Mario Cristobal because of his ability to excel in recruiting. Cristobal has emphasized hiring elite recruiters. No one has personified that more than Taylor.
Flipping Scott from Ohio State was huge for the Miami football program. Taylor could be in line to be a defensive coordinator and eventually a head coach someday. Taylor has all the attributes athletic directors look for when they hire a head coach. Miami is fortunate to have Taylor on their staff.
