Kyshawn George has mixed debut in NBA Summer League
Former Miami guard Kyshawn George finished with five points and five fouls on two of seven from the floor in his NBA Summer League debut on Friday night in Las Vegas. George made one of his five three-point attempts and added three rebounds, five assists, three steals and three turnovers while posting a plus-nine.
George came off the bench in playing 21:12 as Washington won 94-88 over the Atlanta Hawks Summer League team. The New York Knicks selected George 24th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft and traded him to Washington. George is the second 2024 first-round pick on the Washington Summer League roster.
Washington drafted French center Alexandre Sarr with the second pick and traded for shooting guard Bub Carrington with the 14th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. Johnny Davis who Washington drafted 10th overall in the 2022 NBA Draft started ahead of George at shooting guard. Davis scored 12 points on 5-11 shooting in 27:29.
Carrington scored 19 points 5-10 from the floor, 4-8 threes and 5-6 from the free throw line with nine rebounds, eight assists, a steal and a block. Carrington and George will compete for playing time at the two. At 6'5, Carrington doesn't give Washington as much length as the 6'8 George.
George averaged 7.6 points per game, 3.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists and shot 42.6 percent from the floor, 40.8 percent on three-point attempts and 77.8 percent on free throws for Miami last season. George grew three inches between signing with Miami and enrolling in November 2024.
The 247Sports composite rankings had George as the 259th player overall in the 2023 class and the 35th SG. George developed significantly in his one season at Miami. Scouts liked his length, all-around game and consistency in shooting three-pointers to vault into the first round of the NBA Draft.
Expect Washington to play George in multiple positions during summer league play. George played point guard, shooting guard and small forward for Miami. Washington could play Carrington and George together at the two and three or both guard spots.
