Malachi Toney reclassification gives Miami needed WR depth in 2025 class
Miami added more depth to its 2025 class with the reclassification of four-star wide receiver Malachi Toney, reported by Gaby Urrutia of Inside the U. Toney is the 215th prospect, 25th WR and 34th player in Florida in the 2025 class per the 247Sports composite rankings.
Four-star prospect Daylyn Upshaw was the only WR committed to Miami in the 2025 class before Toney reclassified. Miami needed to add WR depth with senior starters Jacolby George and Xavier Restrepo in their last seasons in 2024. Miami signed three top WRs in the 2024 class.
Ny Carr, Chance Robinson and Joshisa Trader have promising futures for Miami. Carr has one reception for eight yards and Trader two for 19 this season. Carr and Trader each played double-digit snaps versus Ball State and Florida A&M. Robinson played double-digit snaps versus FAMU, but did not play versus Ball State.
Toney has 109 receptions for 1,785 yards and 23 touchdowns playing in his third high school season at American Heritage. Toney was a teammate of Miami cornerback Damari Brown and running back Mark Fletcher for one season at American Heritage. Miami CB Darryl Porter Jr. is also an American Heritage alum.
Andrew Ivins, the 247Sports Director of Scouting, called Toney a "high-volume target and a go-to playmaker in a spread attack." Sophomore RayRay Joseph is the likely replacement for Restrepo in the slot in 2025. Carr and Trader could also get an opportunity in the slot next season per Ivins' scouting reports.
Toney is the 22nd commit in the 2025 Miami class. Miami has 11 commits each on offense and defense. Toney is the sixth-skill position player on offense committed to Miami in the 2025 class. Miami is on the cusp of signing a third consecutive top-10 class. Miami currently has the 11th-ranked 2025 class.
