After missing the last two seasons with a severe knee injury, Miami running back Tre'Vonte Citizen something clicked for Tre'Vante Citizen during practice on Thursday per Mario Cristobal. Citizen suffered the knee injury during August Training Camp of his true freshman season in 2022.

At 6'1 and 220 pounds, Citizen gives Miami another power back behind Mark Fletcher. The consensus on Citizen is that he has a near-perfect build for RB. The On3 comparison for Citizen is former Oregon RB Royce Freeman. Cristobal was the offensive coordinator in Freeman's final season in 2017.

Andrew Ivins, the Director of Scouting for 247Sports, projected Citizen as a fourth- to seventh-round draft pick. That was before the knee injury. Citizen's health this spring is critical for Miami. Ajay Allen and Fletcher, the top two returning rushers for Miami in 2024, are out with injuries this spring.

Rising sophomore Chris Johnson and early enrollee Chris Wheatley-Humphrey are the other healthy RBs for Miami this spring. True freshman Jordan Lyle will arrive later this summer. Expect Miami to target a transfer RB to add depth to the 2024 roster.

"Tre'vonte something clicked today. You know 'cuz we've been seeing a guy that's been a little bit tentative and then kind of a flash. But today there was a legitimate a guy running behind his pads running at 230, accelerating, running through contact running his feet through contact, catching the ball really well out of the backfield. Today was his best day. Today is something that really that gives us hope that he can return to form"

Citizen was healthy to play in the Pinstripe Bowl loss to Rutgers but did not receive any carries. Citizen's Miami debut will have to wait. Citizen can build on Thursday's practice. Miami has seven more spring practices remaining, including Saturday. The Spring Game will conclude practice on April 13.

Citizen is the biggest RB on the Miami roster. Cristobal and his staff have built a balance at RB with speed and power. A healthy Citizen improves Miami's depth and provides another powerful back in goal line and short yardage situations. The spring game will provide a good measure of where Citizen is with his rehabilitation.
