The entry of Marshall cornerback Dyoni Hill into the transfer portal is "potentially notable" for the Miami football program per Gaby Urrutia of Inside the U. Miami needs to add depth at CB to its 2024 roster. After not playing much during his first two seasons with Marshall, Hill had a breakout season in 2023.

Hill had 55 tackles 1.0 one tackle for loss, one interception, 10 passes defended and one forced fumble in 2023. Hill played two seasons at Marshall under current Miami defensive coordinator Lance Guidry. Miami signed former Marshall edge rusher Elijah Alston as a transfer during the 2024 offseason.

Hill was the 1,606th prospect, 142nd CB and 211th player in Florida out of Gainesville in the 2021 class. Arkansas State, Austin Peay, Ball State and Western Kentucky were the only other programs to recruit Hill out of high school. Hill could be the classic example of a player who has developed beyond his projections.

Hill would provide the Miami football program with decent length at CB at 6'0. Miami's best returning CB Darryl Porter Jr. is 5'10. Miami also returns Damari Brown who provides Miami with more length at 6'2. Brown is projected as a starter. Jaidas Richard who is also projected to be a key player in the CB rotation is also 6'2.

New Miami defensive backs coach Chevis Jackson coached Hill in the last two seasons at Marshall. Hill preceeded Jackson at Marshall and was signed before Guidry began his first season with the Thundering Hurd. Hill was a starting CB for Marshall in 2023 who would provide Miami with needed experience at the position in 2024.

Porter is the only CB on the Miami roster with a full season as a starter. Brown played well at the end of the 2023 season when he started the final three games. The spring transfer portal window is open from April 16–30. Players can continue to make their decisions about the next programs they play for after April 30.
