Miami 2025 commit Luke Nickel only QB official visitor during June cycle
The Miami football program appears to be all in for quarterback Luke Nickel in the 2025 class. Nickel who committed to Miami in August is the only QB taking an official visit with the Hurricanes during the June cycle. Nickel took his official visit to Miami the weekend of June 7,
Miami has seven commits in the 2025 class. Nickel was the first 2025 prospect to commit to Miami. The 247Sports Composite rankings have Nickel as the 293rd prospect, 25th QB and 36th player in Georgia out of Alpharetta Milton. Nickel is not planning to take other official visits per his consensus recruiting profiles.
Nickel has taken unofficial visits to seven other programs. All of those programs are in Power Conference except for South Florida. Nickel learned earlier this month he earned an invitation to the prestigious Elite 11 Finals in Los Angeles June 18-20.
Miami initially offered 26 QBs in the 2025 class per the 247Sports database. All but three of those QBs have now made their college non-binding commitments. Per the On3 database, several 2025 QBs have taken unofficial visits to Miami.
Albany transfer Reese Poffenbarger, sophomore Emory Williams and 2024 signee Judd Anderson are the QBs on the 2024 Miami roster with eligibility beyond this season. Miami could seek to find another transfer QB to replace Cam Ward in 2025. The development of Anderson, Poffenbarger and Williams will be critical this season.
If Miami stays with the four projected QBs on the 2025 roster, Nickel could have a chance to compete for first-team snaps if he is an early enrollee. Nickel would be the highest-rated QB on the 2025 Miami roster based on his 247Sports evaluation. Nickel is the only one of the four who is a four-star prospect in the 247Sports composite rankings.
The selection to Elite 11 and being named one of two QBs to the Max Preps Junior All-America team shows Nickel is receiving national recognition. Miami was early in Nickel's recruitment. The early evaluation could pay off for Nickel. Nickel is a winner who has been praised for his accuracy and ability to read defenses.
