Miami 2026 QB commit Dereon Coleman beat out 2024 FSU signee in high school
Four-star quarterback Dereon Coleman who committed to Miami in the 2026 class on Wednesday beat out 2024 Florida State signee Trever Jackson during the 2023 season at Orlando Jones High School per David Lake of Inside the U. Coleman won the starting job after initially splitting time with Jackson.
Coleman completed 63.4 percent of his passes for 2,236 yards, 16 touchdowns and six interceptions and ran for 247 yards and another four scores. Jackson completed 55.4 percent of his pass attempts for 916 yards, seven TDs and five interceptions while running for 855 yards and 10 TDs.
Coleman is the 302nd-ranked prospect, 21st QB and 56th player in Florida in the 2026 class with a rating of 0.8956 from 247Sports. Jackson is the 390th prospect, 26th QB and 54th player in Florida with a 0.8972 rating from 247Sports.
Coleman is the second-highest-ranked 2026 QB commit in the ACC behind Brady Smigiel of Florida State. Jackson is the seventh-ranked QB commit in the 2024 class. Florida State has the top 2024 QB commit in the ACC in Luke Kromenhoek. Miami QB signee Judd Anderson is 10th in the 2024 class.
Miami commit Luke Nickel is the sixth-ranked ACC QB commit in the 2025 class. Four-star prospect Ty Hawkins, who committed to former Miami offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee and SMU, is the top QB commit in the ACC in the 2025 class. Tramell Jones Jr., who is committed to FSU, is the second-ranked 2025 ACC QB commit.
Jackson projects to be the second-highest-rated QB on the Miami roster when he enrolls. If none of the Miami QBs transfer, Jackson would join Anderson, Nickel and 2023 signee Emory Williams in 2026. Miami could add a transfer QB in 2024 with Cam Ward entering his final season of collegiate eligibility.
