Miami at California gets extremely late kickoff time
It was inevitable for East Coast teams to have extremely late kickoff times when California and Stanford joined the ACC. Miami at California will kickoff at 10:30 PM Eastern Standard Time on October 5 the ACC announced on Monday. The game will likely be at halftime close to midnight.
Miami at California is the latest kickoff to date for an Eastern Time-based team since ACC expansion this season. The game will be on ESPN with the broadcast teams to be announced at the beginning of next week. California and Miami have split their four meetings. Cal won the last game 24-17 in the 2008 Emerald Bowl in San Francisco.
Miami will be playing in Berkeley for the second time. The Hurricanes won 52-24 in Strawberry Canyon during the 1990 season. Miami won 31-3 over California in 1989 and lost 9-7 in 1964 in games played at the Orange Bowl. California lost its first ACC game 14-9 at Florida State on Saturday.
Miami at California could be the latest kickoff time in Hurricanes history. The 2008 Emerald Bowl had an 8:30 PM ET kickoff. The remainder of the 2024 Miami football schedule will be in the Eastern Time Zone. Miami does not play on the West Coast again during the regular season until they are at Stanford in 2026.
California started the 2024 season 3-1 before losing at Florida State on Saturday. California has wins over UC-Davis, at Auburn and versus San Diego State this season. Miami is 4-0 with wins at Florida, versus Florida A&M and Ball State and at South Florida. Miami is ranked seventh in the AP Top 25 and ninth in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
The California win at Auburn should have the players' attention from the Miami coaches when they start preparing for the Golden Bears. How well Miami adapts to the extremely late start time will also be critical for Miami. California has a bye this week before they host Miami.
