The Miami baseball team salvaged the final game of a three-game series versus Louisville on Sunday with a 17-5 win in seven innings. Miami ended a six-game losing streak with the win on Sunday. Miami also extinguished a 10-game ACC losing streak. Miami rallied from an early deficit on Sunday to earn the win over Louisville.
Louisville led 3-0 going to the bottom of the second inning. Miami took the lead with a four-run second inning and put the game away with an eight-run third inning. An Antonio Jimenez bases-loaded walk in the third inning gave Miami the lead for good. Daniel Cuvet led Miami with five RBIs on Sunday.
Four Miami players had multiple hit games on Sunday. Sunday was the most runs Miami scored since a 22-5 win over Long Island on February 25. Herick Hernandez saved the Miami bullpen on Sunday with a seven-inning-complete game. Hernandez allowed four earned runs on seven hits and four walks with five strikeouts.
Miami rallied from a 4-1 deficit on Friday to tie the game at four after six innings. A four-run Louisville seventh inning gave the Cardinals control of the game. Dorian Gonzalez and Jacoby Long each had four hits for Miami on Friday. Dylan Hoy and Zion Rose combined for seven hits for Louisville.
Miami wasted a great outing from Gage Ziehl in the loss on Friday. Ziehl pitched six innings, allowing seven hits, four runs, three earned, no walks and seven strikeouts. Louisville's bullpen shutdown Miami, allowing one run in four innings. Myles Caba got the loss for Miami allowing four runs in 0.2 innings.
On Saturday, Miami rallied from a 3-0 deficit with five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Louisville tied the game with a two-run J.T. Benson home run in the eighth and Ryan McCoy single in the ninth. Rafe Schlesinger had a quality start for Miami on Saturday pitching 5.2 innings, allowing 10 hits, three earned runs with two walks and seven strikeouts.
The Miami losing streak reached four games on Wednesday with 6-4 loss to Bethune-Cookman. The Wildcats took the lead for good with a four run fourth inning. Bethune-Cookman scored the runs on two bases-loaded walks and two hit batters. Miami staged a late comeback before falling short.
Miami hosts FAU on Tuesday before playing at Georgia Tech next weekend. The Hurricanes are 17-22 overall and 7-13 in the ACC after the win over Louisville. Miami is tied with Boston College, two games ahead of Notre Dame and Pittsburgh, for the last ACC Tournament spots next month.
