Miami basketball adds elite scoring Stetson transfer G Jalen Blackmon
Stetson guard Jalen Blackmon, who led the Atlantic Sun Conference and was 14th nationally, averaging 21.3 points per game in 2023–24, announced his transfer to Miami on Sunday. Blackmon was first-team All-Atlantic Sun in 2023–24. Blackmon was the Atlantic Sun Tournament MVP after scoring 76 points in three games.
Blackmon will team with five-star freshman Jalil Bethea and returning starter Nijel Pack to provide Miami with an explosive backcourt. In 2023-24 Blackmon contributed 2.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists, shot 41.8 percent from the floor, 38.1 percent on three-point attempts and 90.7 percent from the free throw line.
Blackmon has improved almost unanamiously improved his statistics throughout his college career. The best game of the 2023-24 season for Blackmon came in the Atlantic Sun Championship Game. Blackmon scored 43 points on 12-22 from the floor, made five of his nine three-point attempts and made 14-17 free throws.
In the 94-91 win over Appalachian State to give Stetson its first NCAA Tournament berth, Blackmon added five rebounds three assists and a steal in the Atlantic Sun Championship Game, Blackmon earned first-team All-Atlantic Sun as a sophomore in 2022-23 after transferring from Grand Canyon.
Blackmon's father James Sr. was a McDonald's All-American, Indiana Mr. Basketball runner-up to Steve Alford and played at Kentucky. Blackmon's brother James Jr. played at Indiana from 2014 through 2017. Blackmon broke his father's career scoring record at Marion High School in Indiana.
Blackmon is the third transfer Miami has added during the 2024 offseason. Virginia Tech center Lynn Kidd and East Carolina forward Brandon Johnson previously transferred to Miami. Miami has the 17th- best transfer portal class added to signing the 10th-best 2024 freshman class.
