Four-star guard Matthew Able became the first player to commit to the 2025 Miami basketball class on Friday. Able is the 202nd ranked prospect, 37th shooting guard and 18th player in Florida out of Sagemont Prep School in Fort Lauderdale in the 247Sports composite rankings. Able took his official visit to Miami last week.

Miami beat out Northwestern and Wake Forest who also hosted Able for official visits in August and Virginia Tech where he is scheduled to take an official visit in October. The 247Sports site rankings have Able much higher than the composite as the 64 prospect overall, 14th shooting guard and 11th player in Florida in the 2025 class.

Able averaged 18.8 points per game, 5.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.5 steals in his first two high school seasons at Parrish Community High School before transferring to Sagemont. At 6'5, Able provides Miami with excellent size at shooting guard. Miami has been undersized for most of the last three seasons.

Miami point guard Nijel Pack is entering his final season of eligibility in 2024-25. Stetson transfer shooting guard Jalen Blackmon has only the upcoming season of eligibility with Miami. Incoming freshman Jahil Bethea is a projected 2025 NBA Lottery pick from Miami. Building depth in the backcourt is critical for Miami in the future.

Sophomore Paul Djobet, incoming freshman Austin Swartz and Samford redshirt junior A.J. Stanton McCray project to be on the 2025-26 Miami roster baring one of them transferring. Expect Jim Larranga to search for more backcourt depth in the 2025 class and through the transfer portal next spring.
