Miami basketball has third opportunity versus Boston College in ACC Tournament

After an extremely disappointing season the Miami basketball team has a third opportunity this year versus Boston College in the ACC Tournament.

The Miami basketball team will play Boston College for the third time this season and the second meeting in less than a week in the ACC Tourament opener on Tuesday night in Washington D.C. Miami lost 85-77 at Boston College last month and 67-57 to the Eagles on Wednesday night in Coral Gables.

Boston College ended the season with a 67-61 win over ACC last-place Louisville. The win by Boston College over Miami on Wednesday ended a four-game losing streak. Boston College hadn't won since it defeated Miami last month. Boston College ended the regular season ranked 96th in the NCAA NetRatings.

Miami is 100th in the NetRatings. The Hurricanes had a meteoric fall after beginning the season ranked 13th in the Associated Press Top 25. North Carolina leads all ACC teams ranked seventh in the NetRatings. The winner between Boston College and Miami has a monumental task in the ACC Tournament.

Virginia Tech in 2022 is one of only two programs to win four games in four days to win the ACC Tournament. The Hokies won the title in 2022. No ACC team has won five games in five days to claim the title. Miami won two games as the 13th seed in the 2021 ACC Tournament.

The Hurricanes upset 12th-seed Pittsburgh and fifth-seed Clemson before losing by four to fourth-seed Georgia Tech in the quarterfinals. Georgia Tech went on to win the tournament after Virginia had to pull out of the semifinals because of a COVID outbreak.

Miami is likely to be without Nijel Pack versus Boston College. Pack was out for the fifth time in the last six games on Saturday versus Florida State. Pack was 0-5 from the floor and 0-4 on three-point goals without a point versus Boston College on Wednesday in his lone appearance in the last six games.

After playing 13:37 versus Boston College, Pack re-injured his knee. Bensley Joseph and Kyshawn George have started the majority of Miami games this season, with Pack and Wooga Poplar missing time. Miami has primarily used a six-man rotation this season. Pack being injured again is the latest blow for Miami in a difficult season.

Boston College is led by forward Quinten Post. Post averaged 21.0 points per game and 7.5 rebounds in the two games versus Miami this season. Miami has to cover Post better on Tuesday than in the first two meetings. Closing the season with 10 straight losses would make the offseason more difficult for Miami.
