Miami basketball loses ninth straight game at Florida State

Playing without Nijel Pack the Miami basketball team dropped its ninth straight game on Saturday 83-75 at Florida State.

The Miami basketball team was competitive throughout the game with Florida State before losing their ninth straight contest on Saturday 83-75. Miami played without Nijel Pack. Florida State had a modest 6-0 run halfway through the second half to take a lead they would hold for the rest of the game.

Miami trailed 37-32 at halftime despite 11 turnovers. The Hurricanes finished the game with 17 turnovers. Four Hurricanes finished in double figures, led by Bensley Joseph with 17 points. Darin Green Jr. scorched Miami for 26 points. Green made eight of his 15 three-point attempts to lead the Seminoles in scoring.

Florida State was able to pull away in the second half at the free-throw line. After no free throw attempts in the first half, Florida State made 15 of their 19 free throw attempts in the second half. Miami made six free throws in 10 attempts on Saturday. Miami shot 47.7 percent and made seven of 19 three-point attempts.

Miami held Florida State to 40.0 percent from the floor. Florida State made 12 of its 33 three-point attempts. Most of that was Green. Not including Green, Florida State made four of 18 three-point attempts. Omier led Miami with 17 rebounds. Jamir Watkins had 16 points and 11 rebounds for Florida State.

Miami began the game strong with a 7-0 run after Florida State took a 2-0 lead. Florida State answered with a 9-3 run. The game remained competitive through the remainder of the first half. Florida State closed the first half on an 11-5 run to take a 37-32 lead into halftime.

Wooga Poplar was the fourth Miami player in double figures with 12. Miami will next play in the ACC Tournament on Tuesday as the 14th seed. The times for the ACC Tournament will be announced after all the games are completed on Saturday. Miami has to win five straight games to earn an ACC Championship.
