Miami basketball NBA Draft early entrees and transfer portal tracker

The Miami basketball team has lost five players to the transfer portal and two to the NBA Draft, while bringing in two players as transfers. Expect Miami to add more transfers to bolster depth.

Although Omier is listed at 6'7, he is about 6'5.5, per Miami head coach Jim Larranaga. Omier is in between the two forward spots. Omier made a conscious decision to take more three-point shots to improve his 2024 NBA Draft prospects. In 2023–24, Omier averaged 17.0 PPG, 10.0 RPG, 1.2 APG and shot 55.2 percent from the floor.

Joseph is the only significant loss for Miami in the transfer portal. In the past two seasons, Joseph was Miami's best on-ball defender. Because of significant injuries for Miami in 2023–24, Joseph started 32 of 37 games. Joseph averaged 9.6 PPG, 3.4 RPG and 3.4 APG, but shot only 40.8 percent from the floor and 36.4 percent on threes.

Poplar entered the NBA Draft and participated in the G-League invite, but failed to earn a invitation to the NBA Combine. Poplar was reportedly not happy with his role on Miami in 2023-24. Arkansas, Kentucky and Villanova have all been mentioned as potential spots for Poplar to transfer to.

Casey was a highly regarded signee in the 2022 Miami class as the 134th-ranked prospect, 24th power forward and fourth player from Illinois. Casey never reached that potential at Miami. In two seasons, Casey averaged 1.4 PPG and 1.5 RPG while shooting 37.0 percent from the floor, .045 percent of his threes and 62.1 percent of his free throws.
