Miami basketball opens ACC versus Clemson, rest of schedule released Tuesday
Miami will open ACC play on December 7 at noon on ESPN versus Clemson as announced by the ACC on Monday. The ACC will announce the remainder of the conference schedule at 8 PM Eastern time on Tuesday night. Miami has a very different roster for the 2024-25 season. Clemson and Miami split two games last season.
Miami won 95-82 to improve to 11-2 overall and 2-0 in the ACC on January 3. Clemson won 77-60 on February 14. Clemson finished 24-12 in 2024, 11-9 in the ACC and advanced to the West Regional Final where it lost to Alabama. Miami was hindered by injuries and finished 15-17 overall and 6-14 in the ACC.
Guards Paul Djobet and Nijel Pack and forward Matthew Cleveland are Miami's only returnees. Miami has aspirations to return to the program to the heights of making the NCAA Tournament Midwest Regional Final in 2022 and the Final Four in 2023. The Hurricanes finished 15-17 last season.
This will be the fourth time Clemson and Miami are playing each other in the ACC opener. Miami won the most recent meeting with Clemson in an ACC opener, 80-75 during the 2021-22 season. Miami has won two of the previous three games versus Clemson in the ACC opener.
Miami signed the seventh-ranked 2024 class in the 247 Sports composite rankings and the 29th-best transfer class. Five-star guard Jalil Bethea is the top-ranked freshman for Miami. Six transfers are new to Miami in 2024-24 with center Lynn Kidd, forward Brandon Johnson and guard Jalen Blackmon as projected starters.
Miami added far more depth and size to its roster. Kidd gives Miami legitimate size at center at 6'10. Backup center Kiree Huie gives Miami a shot-blocking presence behind Kidd. Guard A.J. Staton-McCray provides defense, scoring and shooting off the bench for Miami in 2024-25.
Miami's non-conference schedule was previously announced. Miami will play Farleigh-Dickinson on Monday, November 4 to begin the season. The ACC also announced on Monday that the Arkansas at Miami game in the ACC/SEC Challenge game will tipoff at 7 or 7:30 PM ET on ESPN or ESPN2.
