Miami continues at top in post week two State of Florida Power rankings

After their 56-9 win over Florida A&M on Saturday, Miami remains on the top of the State of Florida Power rankings after week two.

After its 56-9 win over Florida A&M on Saturday, Miami continues on top of the State of Florida post week two power rankings. Central Florida remains second in the post week two rankings. Behind Central Florida, the results of week two shuffled the rankings slightly.

Miami fell one spot to 12th nationally in the ESPN Football Power Index and is ninth in the Team Rankings predictive rankings and results. The Hurricanes are 10th in the Associated Press Top 25 and 12th in the USA Today Coaches poll. Miami is the only team from Florida that is ranked.

Central Florida is 37th, listed under others receiving votes in the USA Today Coaches poll. Florida FBS teams went 4-2 this weekend with the only losses by Florida Atlantic and South Florida. Florida State had a much-needed bye week after beginning the season with losses to Georgia Tech and Boston College.

Central Florida earned a 2-0 start with a 45-14 win over Sam Houston State. Florida International improved to 1-1 with a 52-16 win in their home opener versus Central Michigan. Florida evened its record with a 45-7 win over FCS Samford. FAU lost 24-7 at Army and South Florida lost 42-16 at Alabama.

The win by Florida vaults them over South Florida and Florida Atlantic who both lost. South Florida falls one spot. The Bulls trailed 14-13 entering the fourth quarter at Alabama before the Crimson Tide outscored South Florida 28-3 in the final 15 minutes. Miami plays at South Florida on September 21.

Central Florida is creeping up on Miami in the FPI at 16th. Florida State is the third highest ranked team in the FPI at 32nd. The Seminoles' 0-2 record places them sixth in the State of Florida Power Rankings as one of only two winless FBS teams in the Sunshine State.

South Florida is 78th in the FPI, FIU 101st and FAU103rd. The State of Florida college football is being dominated by Miami and Central Florida through the first two weeks. Miami currently projects as a College Football Playoff team. Central Florida is on the verge of being in the top 12 nationally in the metrics.
