The Miami football program ranked 15th nationally with 28 players lost to the 2024 transfer portal. Quarterback Tyler Van Dyke was the highest-profile outgoing Miami transfer after two inconsistent seasons. Louisville is first in the ACC and 10th among power conference programs with 30 transfers lost in 2024.

Colorado was first among power conference programs with 41 lost transfers. Nebraska lost the least amount of transfers among power five programs with eight. Miami added transfers from Michigan State who lost the second most amount with 39 players in the portal, Houston fifth with 33 and Louisville as previously mentioned.

Houston, Louisville and Michigan State are the only programs that lost more transfers than Miami among the players the Hurricanes added. Houston wide receiver Sam Brown, Louisville linebacker Jaylin Alderman and Michigan State defensive tackle Simeon Barrow are all 2024 Miami projected starters.

The outgoing transfers for Miami include safety Savion Riley. Miami added Riley as a transfer from Vanderbilt during the spring transfer portal window. Most of the lost transfers were deep on the Miami depth chart. Some of the returning starters were expected to have a reduction in snaps in 2024.

Miami replaced many of the outgoing transfers with players who have higher ceilings. Van Dyke was replaced by Cam Ward, who is one of the top transfer quarterbacks. Henry Parrish, who led Miami in rushing the last two seasons, was replaced by Oregon State transfer Damien Martinez, the second-ranked running back in the 2024 portal.

Miami signed 27 freshmen and added 14 transfers in the 2024 class. Seven of 14 incoming Miami transfers earned All-Conference in FBS in 2023. Mario Cristobal and his staff targeted accomplished transfers, to add to the 2024 Miami roster. Nearly half of Miami's incoming transfers are projected starters in 2024.

Mario Cristobal and his staff quickly evaluated which players no longer fit on the Miami roster after the 2023 season ended and post spring practice. Most of the outgoing Miami transfers were not going to contribute in 2024. The addition of Ward helped Miami attract Brown and Oregon State running back Damien Martinez.
