Right guard Anez Cooper and tackles Francis Mauigoa and Jalen Rivers return as starters on the offensive line for the Miami football team in 2024. Indiana transfer Zach Carpenter will replace Matt Lee as the starting center. Miami enters the remainder of the offseason with left guard open.
Mauigoa and Rivers finished in the top 20 Miami Pro Football Focus graded players per David Lake of Inside the U. Cooper was not ranked in the top 20 PFF Graded Players from Miami. Cooper and Rivers tied for the most snaps from Miami during the 2024 season.
Per Lake, PFF graded the best Miami run blocker in 2023 at 71.8. Mauigoa received a 62.9 pass-blocking grade while allowing 24 pressures and five sacks. Mauigoa allowed two sacks and 10 pressures in the final six games of the 2023 season. Expect Mauigoa to keep improving in 2024.
Rivers will start a game for Miami in his fourth season in 2024. In 2021 and 2022, Rivers played in 12 games with 10 starts at left guard. Rivers started all 13 games at left tackle in 2023. Former Miami center Matt Lee and Rivers earned second-team All-ACC in 2023. Former Miami LG Javion Cohen, Cooper and Mauigoa were named honorable mention All-ACC in 2023. Expect Miami to challenge for all five starting OL to push to earn All-ACC after the 2024 season.
Redshirt freshmen Tommy Kinsler and Samson Okunlola and redshirt sophomore Matt McCoy are the likely competitors to emerge as the starting left guard for Miami in 2024. Whoever doesn't emerge as the starting LG for Miami in 2024 will be the primary backups on the OL.
Ryan Rodriguez will backup Carpenter at center and is likely his successor in 2025. Louis Cristobal adds depth on the interior of the OL. Miami should continue to have one of the best OLs in the ACC in 2024 with the experience and proven production returning.
